About Currency Converter

Exchange rates fluctuate daily, and whether you are shopping from an international store, planning a trip abroad, comparing salaries across countries, or processing invoices in foreign currencies, having accurate, up-to-date conversion data at your fingertips saves time and prevents costly mistakes.

Our Currency Converter covers 150+ currencies — from major pairs like USD/EUR and GBP/JPY to smaller national currencies used in emerging markets — using the free open endpoint of ExchangeRate-API. That source publishes mid-market rates and refreshes once every 24 hours, and this tool caches the response in your browser for an hour to avoid needless requests. The searchable dropdown lets you find any currency by name or ISO code in seconds, and eight favorites sit in a "Quick select" row for one-click switching.

The multi-currency table displays your amount converted into eight major currencies at once — USD, EUR, BRL, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD and CHF. This is especially useful for international travelers who want to see prices in their home currency, or for businesses comparing vendor quotes from multiple countries. The rate timestamp tells you exactly when the data was last fetched, and if you go offline the converter falls back to the last rates saved on your device with a notice that they are no longer current.

How to Use Currency Converter

  1. 1Type the value you want to convert in the "Amount" field — the result updates as you type.
  2. 2Select the source currency in the "From" dropdown — search by currency name (e.g. "real") or code (e.g. "BRL").
  3. 3Select the target currency in the "To" dropdown, or tap one of the "Quick select" pills (USD, EUR, BRL, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD, CHF).
  4. 4Read the converted amount and the effective 1-to-1 exchange rate shown right below it.
  5. 5View the multi-currency table to see your amount in the eight major currencies at once.
  6. 6Click ⇄ to instantly swap the From and To currencies.
  7. 7Check the "Rates updated" timestamp at the bottom, and click "Refresh" beside it to force a new fetch.

Use Cases

  • Convert international prices when shopping from foreign online stores
  • Check exchange rates before traveling to budget accommodation and activities accurately
  • Compare salary or freelance rate offers denominated in different currencies
  • Convert invoice amounts for international clients or vendors for accounting purposes
  • Check the timestamp before quoting a price, so you know exactly how fresh the number you are passing on is
  • Quickly compare prices across multiple countries for a product or service

Tips

  • Use the ⇄ button to instantly swap source and target currencies for reverse conversions
  • Search by currency name ("euro") or ISO code ("EUR") — both work in the dropdown
  • Rates are cached in your browser for 1 hour — click Refresh to force a fetch, though the source itself only publishes once a day
  • Lose your connection and the converter keeps working from the last rates it saved, flagging them as no longer current
  • The multi-currency table is useful for budgeting trips with stops in multiple countries
  • For cryptocurrency conversions, use the Crypto Converter which pulls dedicated coin market data
  • Exchange rates shown are mid-market rates — banks and services add a spread on top

Frequently Asked Questions

Rates come from ExchangeRate-API's free open endpoint (open.er-api.com), which publishes mid-market rates for 160+ currencies and refreshes once every 24 hours. This converter exposes 150+ of them in the dropdown.

The tool fetches rates on first load and caches them in your browser for 1 hour. After the cache expires, a new request is made automatically. You can also click "Refresh" to force a fetch at any time — though the source itself only publishes new rates once a day, so a refresh will often return the same numbers.

Partly. The last rates fetched are kept in your browser's localStorage. If you go offline or the API is unavailable, the tool falls back to those saved rates and shows a notice telling you they are not current. You still need one successful online load before that fallback has anything to use.

Click either the From or To dropdown and start typing — you can search by currency code (e.g. "BRL") or by currency name (e.g. "real"). The list filters in real time.

The free tier of ExchangeRate-API covers fiat currencies only. Cryptocurrencies like BTC or ETH are not included in this tool.

Conversions are as accurate as the rates provided by the API, which are mid-market rates. For financial transactions, always verify with your bank or payment provider, as they apply their own spreads and fees.
